It appears the worst of a March 24 oil spill in Lake Michigan is over. A team comprised of the Coast Guard, the EPA and BP have concluded cleanup efforts. The spill came from the BP Whiting Refinery in northern Indiana.

Final numbers are double what initial reports first announced. Up to 1,638 gallons of crude oil were discharged when a distillation unit malfunctioned.
Officials are stating that the spill will not have damaging long-term effects regarding drinking water or local wildlife. BP has been asked to provide data from the spill and copies of investigations.
