MLive.com is reporting that Detroit Public Works garbage collection employees have been taking off work in anticipation of losing their jobs. Last November the city announced a plan to move trash collection into the private sector. It is expected that this move will save $6 million.
Though the private garbage collection services are not scheduled to begin full time until June of this year, crews have been brought in to deal with the work shortage. A combination of extra waste this time of year and some public employees staying home have set the trash collection back about two days.
