Ah… it’s a great time to live in Ann Arbor! Many highlights of our community have earned our city high marks insomuch that we were recently awarded Best Place To Live In 2018 by livability.com. Due largely in part to our education and civic engagement, this acknowledgment speaks volumes for Ann Arbor’s engaging infrastructure. Want to get involved and take part in honing more sustainable practices in Ann Arbor? The 7th annual Sustainable Ann Arbor Forums is back this winter to focus on local sustainability efforts and challenges facing the community of Ann Arbor.

Sustainable Ann Arbor Series 2018

Hosted by the City of Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor District Library, the series is described as “a think tank of local stakeholders, including community organizations, local government staff, and businesses will join members of the public to discuss local sustainability efforts and challenges in our community.”

Having begun on January 8th the series kicked off with discussion, featuring a panel of electric vehicle experts and owners, discussing the latest related technologies, and getting drivers in the region to make the switch to electric cars. Attendees also took a look at electric scooters and motorbikes as well as electric cars provided by the Michigan Electric Auto Association.

Upcoming Sustainable Ann Arbor Forum Events

Each of the forums will be held at the downtown Ann Arbor District Main Library at 343 S. Fifth Ave.

Remaining monthly events will feature additional themes on local sustainability featuring experts from local industry, government, and the University of Michigan.

February 8: Measuring and Tracking Sustainability

Experts from the sustainability industry, Ann Arbor city government, and the University of Michigan will discuss ways to measure and track the success of sustainability programs, the City’s new four-star rating with the STAR Communities program, industry standards, and the University’s latest efforts.

March 8: Civic Life in Ann Arbor

Founder of CivCity, Mary Morgan, will moderate a panel examining the health of Ann Arbor civic life, what it takes to engage the community, and what civic life can mean in the age of social media.

April 12: Water in Ann Arbor

A fun evening of learning about the lifecycle of water in Ann Arbor including video, demonstrations from field experts, and trivia rewarded with prizes!
