USGBC Addresses Indoor Air Quality Concerns

USGBC Addresses Indoor Air Quality Concerns

US green building councilDesigning and building environmentally friendly structures has taken on a new safety aspect. In addition to promoting energy efficiency within the building implementation, the materials used will also be monitored for potential health risks. The US Green Building Council has partnered with numerous other organizations to promote the Building Health Initiative.

Transparency of building materials will be key to success.

The USGBC has recognized the growing concern over indoor air quality in “green” buildings. The key to successfully transitioning to safer air quality will be transparency. LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) and Underwriter Laboratories are partners for this initiative as well. LEED awards various levels of certification for green buildings based on points earned. LEED will award points for companies that display transparency with potentially harmful materials.

“We are thrilled to engage in this partnership which we believe will make a great impact across the market – both for manufacturers that want to establish themselves as leaders in the marketplace and for consumers who are increasingly demanding transparency in what is being used to construct and maintain the places where they live, learn, work and play,” said USGBC President, CEO & Founding Chair Rick Fedrizzi.
